Hi all! I am new to the forum and came across it while trying to find some professional and medical clothes. I live in a really nice place but sadly, there is no decent shopping in the entire state! So here I am on the internet, getting brave enough to order clothes online.
Anyway, I just thought I would start a post about medical attire. I have found tons of scrubs that fit me quite well. There has been an explosion of companies reaching out to the young people in the medical fields, which resulted in a little smaller sizing, yay! So the scrubs are not a problem for me anymore, I'll write some reviews of them if anyone is interested, just ask.
But I'm a Dr. (as one of my mentors pronounced it, a "dur") and I need one of those white doctor coats. I have been looking and searching for two years and only found one coat that fit me - ugh! And that coat was really obnoxious because it was always super wrinkly, even when I pulled it right out of the dryer. So anyone else have this problem? Or am I the only petite doctor alive? Because that's how I feel when shopping for these darn coats.

Hi Little doctor! There's a petite blogger that is on hiatus at the moment, but she's also a doctor! I did a quick search through her posts for her doctor coat. Looks like she had her aunt alter it smaller for her: http://www.petitexxs.com/2010/05/real-work-clothes.htmlhttp://www.petitexxs.com/2011/02/alterations-ann-taylor-texture-pencil.htmlI worked in biotech for almost 7 years and had my fair share of ridiculous fitting lab coats. The last supplier we had couldn't quite grasp just how small I really was. A representative even came in one day and I got called to the admin building so she could see how TINY I was and figure out what size I needed. They finally ended up giving me a men's XS that was slimmed for my measurements, but was hilariously long. One option is definitely to get a nice coat altered. Since it's important to have for work, and you'll wear it all the time, it might be worth to get one taken in for you. Since they're not lined, it shouldn't be too expensive.

This is a tough one! I've seen plenty of petite medical professionals so I'm not sure why petite medical clothing is not easily available. Rarely do scrubs fit as well as they do on the actors on "Scrubs" or "Grey's Anatomy." The standard small scrubs available for free from the hospital are so big, but since I don't like to do laundry if I don't have to, I suck it up and swim in them. It gets really bad when all the small bottoms are taken and I have to go for mediums or larges - the waists are huge and I look like I'm wearing harem pants unintentionally!
When it comes to the lab coats, I always ask for the smallest size possible and they're still huge. The shoulder seams are a few inches below my actual shoulder - should I create a new seam down the middle of the back to bring in the shoulders? Of course, the sleeves are long. Regarding the length, I saw some petite co-residents hemming them up which fixes the length, but the placement of the pockets seem off. Although it wouldn't be a huge deal, I suppose, to take out the stitches and place them higher.
Basically, I don't have any answers, but I empathize. If you find a good brand for lab coats, please let us know!

Yay, a scrubs thread! I work at a student clinic and it's amazing how ENORMOUS our scrubs are even though most of us are 1)girls and 2) petite. I wear the XS and it's still huge albeit comfortable. If you know of a brand or company that sells them smaller I'd love to know, maybe I can bring it up at our next meeting and next year's members will have better fitting scrubs!

I have a size 0 Meta white coat which fits wells in the shoulders and length. I did have to have the sleeves shortened. I think it is best to get white coats dry-cleaned.

I have tried on the Grey's Anatomy brand lab coat ( http://www.allheart.com/bc4419.html) and can vouch that the XS is very slim fitting (size chart: 30-32 bust, 22½-24½ waist, 32½-34½ hips, which are similar to my measurements). I didn't end up buying it though, because I wasn't a fan of the fact that it says "Grey's Anatomy" on the pocket. I ended up going with a slightly less fitted brand (I'll check on the name on Monday) and looking at Petite XXS posts mine is almost identical in style/fit. I find most residents/staff don't wear particularily fitted coats in my hospital, so I went with something in the middle. For scrubs, if I need to wear then it's only OR scrubs. It is so ridiculous when there are only large sizes left, and I end up doing the tucked in top/pants up high oh so fashionable look. However, I have seen many extremely tiny nurses wear the MOBB brand ( http://www.scrubscanada.ca/html/pant.html). They even come in petite lengths (28 inches) and XXS!

I haven't had any luck with urbane but with landau i can wear a xsp bottom with an elastic waist pretty well. i do have to roll it up once or twice. For reference I am 4' 11" with a 22" waist. Also, landau has xsp top that fit me ok that tied in the back. However the v cut was to low and i always have to wear an undershirt. Also, grey's anatomy has petite sizes online that fit me very well top wise. Bottoms had to get hemmed. Other than than I would say invest in some nice scrubs and get them altered. I have three pairs of scrubs and got them all altered and wear the same ones. I also got my scrub jacket hemmed. Good luck!!!

We just got new lab coats (I work in a chem lab) and the smallest size they originally got was men's small! It was gigantic. They finally gave in and got men's xs, which is way longer on me than it should be, but such is life. I could get it hemmed, but it's not worth the effort. I'm not really trying to impress anyone in lab, haha.

Thanks for your help everyone! I think I'll get an XS lab coat in something that looks professional and get it altered. I agree with Antisera, I don't care to have my coat looking ultra-trendy by sporting the latest hit TV show or brand name (like Grey's Anatomy or Babyphat). I want to look professional, not hip!
I was hoping to avoid alterations as it adds to the cost. On one or two coats it wouldn't be a big deal but I need a lot (I like to wear a clean one every day without doing laundry all the time and I ruin them regularly). Oh well, the coats do a great job at protecting my nice shirts and are cheaper to replace, even with alterations.
