My foot by length is a size 4, but unless the shoe runs wide, a size 4 dress shoe won't fit. I guess my feet are wide? I haven't found anything online where you can see what your foot measurements mean, besides length for size... anyone know something about this? My foot is 8 inches long and 3.5 inches wide. I have no clue what that mans for my search for shoes. I've been a default sandal girl (living in FL, that's not hard), however since I have a job in a school, my toes have to be covered. Flats aren't hard to find, but a heel? If I find one, it would be my diamond in the rough!

I've been trying to order a good pair of pumps for some time and found out my 7.9" foot is actually measured officially to be just barely under a size 3, which is why size 4 is pretty hit and miss for me. The shortest pumps I've found so far are Vaneli size 4 but they don't run all that wide (which is also a problem for me). Thinking about trying Emyloo Shoes but they told me their shoes run true to size, so that would put 8" at a size 3. If you're just looking for a closed-toe shoe, a bootie or oxford style might be more forgiving if it runs a little long since it's harder to clomp out the back of the shoe.

Hate to say it though, but wearing sandals (flip flops especially) will make your feet wider over time.

I just read about a place in Australia, I believe, which makes custom shoes. They claim they will work with you on design and fit. I read about it in Oprah's magazine.

Shoesofprey.com http://www.shoesofprey.com/

I haven't yet bought anything, but I am excited about the idea. I assume that once they have a 'last' for your foot, you can order many shoes which you design and fit properly.

Morgan Miller is another place where custom shoes are made.

so that would put 8" at a size 3.

I don't think that's correct, 8" is a size 4, but 3.5" is "wide" for an small shoe size, small size shoes are more narrow that average size shoes, I have never have seen a shoe less of a size 5 in wide, I don't think they exist.

I wear a size 4.5 - 5 (5=35 not a 36 ), I can wear a 35.5 too, with a 8.5" long and barely 3" wide, I have the opposite problem that you, most shoes are too wide for me, specially at the heels.

Are you tried a rounded style type of shoes, I mean something like Naya shoes? I think they are cute and probably will fit you better that pointed styles. ;)

I hate to say it, but have you checked the girls department? Shoes for kids tend to be wider in my experience - You may be able to get (lower) wedges of heels.

Some higher-end brands make heels for kids I think. The only one which comes to mind right now is Michael Kors though:

These are a 2" heel.
